Fair Lawn Opens Cooling Centers
Hot temperatures are forecast to stretch into next week.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Cooling centers will be open throughout the borough while hot temperatures continue to blanket North Jersey.
Residents may use the Fair Lawn Community Center, Fair Lawn Senior Center, and Fair Lawn Library to relax and escape the heat.
The cooling centers will be open at the following times:

Fair Lawn Senior Center
Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sunday: noon to 3 p.m.
Community Center
Monday to Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Maurice M. Pine Free Public Library
Monday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The memorial pool is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Daily weekday passes cost $10, weekend passes cost $20.
The Fair Lawn Office of Emergency Management offers residents the following tips to remain cool:
- Check air conditioning ducts for proper insulation
- Install temporary window reflectors, such as aluminum foil-covered cardboard, in between windows and drapes, to reflect heat back outside.
- Cover windows that face the sun in the morning or afternoon with awnings or louvers.
- Get trained in first aid to learn how to treat heat-related emergencies.
- Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
- Eat well-balanced, light meals.
- Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty and avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol.
