Fair Lawn Police Officer Charged With Theft

Officer Donald MacIsaac, a 27-year veteran of the department, allegedly stole $820 worth of items from the Fair Lawn Ambulance Corps.

A Fair Lawn police officer was charged Tuesday with theft after police determined he stole more than $800 worth of items from the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Chief Glen Cauwels said.

The Fair Lawn Police Department Internal Affairs Unit received information from the ambulance corps that several items were missing from the supply room in the corps’ headquarters, Cauwels said.

The unit conducted a two-month long investigation and found that Officer Donald MacIsaac took blankets, pillowcases, gloves, sanitary wipes, and other items worth $821, Cauwels said.

MacIsaac, a 27-year veteran of the department, turned himself into Fair Lawn police officers Tuesday; he was charged with third-degree theft and was released.

“When officers are found to have engaged in misconduct, this department must correct the behavior,” Cauwels said. “Police misconduct will not be tolerated.”

MacIsaac has been suspended without pay.

“Officers of the Fair Lawn Police Department strive to conduct themsevles with integrity and professionalism,” Cauwels said. “Our department has implemented an internal affairs policy that provides for a meaningful and objective investigation of citizens’ complaints of police misconduct.”
