Fifties Style Sock Hop, Classic Car Show Set for May 29

River Road Improvement Corporation hosts the first of three planned classic car show/community dance events.

A Classic Car Show will be the backdrop to a Sock Hop straight out of the 1950’s on Thursday, May 29th when the River Road Improvement Corporation (RRIC) hosts the first of three planned classic car show/community dance events in Fair Lawn’s River Road District this spring and summer. The gatherings in June and July will continue the fun with Disco Music and Summer Dance Party themes.

Kuiken Brothers and STS Tire & Auto Centers, both longtime businesses in the River Road District, have joined lead presenters Community Bank of Bergen County (CBBC) and ShopRite of Fair Lawn owners Inserra Supermarkets, Community Dance Sponsor Dance A Lot Ballroom Studio, and media partners the Fair Lawn Community News and WFDU-FM, as sponsors of the events presented by the RRIC with co-host the Borough of Fair Lawn. Other event sponsors include Empress Diner, Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce, Glam Spot NJ and Tribal Iron Choppers.

The events will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Fair Lawn Avenue/George Street Parking Lot on Thursday, June 12 and Thursday, July 10 in addition to the kickoff event on May 29. Many district businesses and restaurants are open during the events and car owners and attendees are encouraged to shop, browse and enjoy their visit to the River Road District.

DJ Christine Vitale, host of The Group Harmony Alley on WFDU-FM, will provide the music at all three events for residents of Fair Lawn and surrounding communities to dance the night away. Adriana Bezmenova and Georgi Kanev, owners of Dance A Lot Ballroom Studio, will provide open demonstrations and lessons in addition to an open dance competition inviting dancers of all ages to participate. Trophies, provided through the generosity of the River Road District’s businesses and commercial property owners, will be awarded to top dancers and classic car owners participating in the events. Classic Car owners will be entered in a drawing to win dining and other business gift certificates.
