Governor Nominates NJ Sen. Robert M. Gordon For BPU Chief
Gordon, a democrat, has represented the 38th Legislative District since 2004.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — State Senator Bob Gordon (District 38) was nominated Thursday to become a commissioner of the state Board of Public Utilities by Governor Phil Murphy.
“Senator Gordon has long been a dedicated public servant in our state,” Murphy said. “His years of leadership experience will make him a valuable asset at BPU as the agency works with utilities to ensure reliability and safety in our state.”
Gordon has represented the 38th Legislative District since 2004 when he joined the General Assembly. He was elected to the Senate in 2007.

Gordon is chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and serves on the Health Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee and the Intergovernmental Relations Commission and the Legislative Services Commission.
“Having first been drawn into public service by my interest in the environment and energy, I’m excited to return to my ‘roots’ with the opportunity of contributing to the Board of Public Utilities," Gordon said. "I’m very pleased to join, and learn from, the highly regarded staff and to advance the Governor’s initiatives as part of this expert team."

Before joining the State Legislature, Gordon was Fair Lawn mayor from 1988 to 1991 and a councilman from 1986 to 1995.
The state Senate must confirm Gordon's nomination before he begins his new position.
Bergen County Democratic Chairman Lou Stellato chose Assemblyman Joe Lagana to fill Gordon's senate seat if the Senate confirms his nomination.
