"Our daughter’s godparents lived up the street and so we’d come by here on a regular basis and said, 'Wow, this is a great location,'" said Barry, a certified public accountant who left the corporate world to launch his first Great Clips franchise. "We looked at the shopping centers on a regular basis and said, we wish something would open up there. And so when it did, we jumped all over the opportunity. We’re really thrilled."

Barry has no background in hair salons but said he and his wife were looking to open a franchise together in a recession-proof industry and fell in love with the Great Clips brand after conducting extensive research.

"We liked the history, the track record of Great Clips...they just have it right," Barry said. "I spent six weeks investigating them, talking to current franchisees and actually also talking to people that bought a franchise and decided not to open it for whatever reason, and nobody had anything bad to say about it. Everybody liked it."

Manager Jennifer Tyll will run the Fair Lawn Great Clips for the Srebnicks on a day-to-day basis.

"I’ve always been in a full-service salon, so this is fairly new to me," said Tyll, a Carlstadt resident and 23-year veteran of the hair salon industry. "But it’s a nice change, I like it. It's quick, it’s fast-paced and the clientele here is awesome, the area’s awesome, so I’m happy here."

The price for a haircut is $14 for both men and women, regardless of length of hair. Seniors and children can get a trim for $11.

Customers in a hurry can check in on the go at greatclips.com and even view the wait time at their local Great Clips on the Great Clips smartphone app, available for both Android and iPhone.

"We try to minimize the wait time for our customers," Barry said. "When you get here you’re already on the wait list. You don’t have to worry about how many people have come in since you checked in."

The Fair Lawn Great Clips is offering haircuts for only $4.99 until June 23 to celebrate its opening.
