Jan. 31: Fair Lawn Relay for Life to Hold Free Kickoff Event with

FAIR LAWN, N.J., January 14, 2018 – The Fair Lawn chapter of Relay for Life, the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will hold its kickoff event on Wednesday, January 31 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Recreation Center, 10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn, N.J. The program will feature an appearance by New Jersey native Felicia Temple, who beat carcinoid cancer and was a finalist on the singing contest television show, “The Voice” in February 2017. The event will include a light dinner, a presentation and information about Relay for Life and the work it supports, and entertainment, including a performance by Temple. Temple’s inspiring story includes writing and recording her EP, “The Balancing Act,” while undergoing chemotherapy and abdominal surgery in 2015-2016. Undeterred by a challenge, Temple also followed a lifelong interest in medicine, obtaining her nursing degree while pursuing her solo music career. Her story has inspired millions of cancer survivors and musicians alike. Her CDs will be available for sale and signing at the kickoff. Relay for Life is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5200 communities and 27 countries. During the event, team members take turns walking around a track continuously to signify that cancer never sleeps. Teams also set up themed campsites and continue their fundraising efforts by collecting donations for food, goods, games, and activities. This year, Fair Lawn and Glen Rock are joining together for the event, which will be held overnight from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., June 9-10, 2018 at the Dobrow Sports Complex on Harristown Road in Fair Lawn.
