Men Try Burglary Distraction Scheme On Elderly Saddle Brook Woman, Police Say
One man made up a fake story about the woman needing to check her water connection while another tried to enter her home.

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Police are investigating a diversion burglary attempt on an elderly woman Thursday afternoon.
The woman reported at 2:30 p.m. that two men tried to enter her house by distracting her with a false story about needing to check the water in her home, police said.
While one man was trying to get the woman to come outside to see the alleged problem, another tried to enter the home through a back door, police said.

The woman became suspicious about the problem and called the police department while the men were still at the house. They quickly left while she called police, authorities said.
Police describe the men as being white, between 40 and 50 years old and 5 feet 10 inches tall. One had a light to medium build, the other had a heavy build.
