NJ Man Hospitalized After Threatening Call To Gottheimer's Office

Officers located an NJ man after the call, and said he showed signs of "psychiatric distress." No charges are expected to be filed.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A New Jersey man was taken to a Bergen County hospital after he made a phone call to the Glen Rock office of U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer which "had the potential to become violent," Glen Rock police said.

Staffers at Gottheimer's Glen Rock office received a call from a man yesterday at 9:30 a.m. who said he was "aggrieved over the lack of responsiveness he felt he was receiving from various governmental agencies in response to a complaint he had made," police said.

The man said he was coming to the office to seek Gottheimer's assistance, but told a family member that they should call the police because "he didn't know what he was going to do if the congressman could not help him," police said.

Oakland police assisted in locating the man, who has not been named. Also assisting on the scene were the Bergen County Sheriff's Department and the Bergen County Regional SWAT Patrol, while investigative assistance was provided by the US Capitol Police and NJ State Police.

When officers found the man, they determined that he was showing signs of psychiatric distress, and called for a psychiatric screener from 262-HELP, police said. Following the screening, the man was transported to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for additional assistance.

No criminal charges are expected, police said.

Representatives from the congressman's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
