WATCH: Fair Lawn Marine Makes A Surprise Visit Home
A Fair Lawn Marine dropped in on his brother for a surprise visit, and school district officials captured it on video. Watch it here.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — Joel Fife is a recent graduate of Fair Lawn High School, but that isn't necessarily what made his recent return to his old stomping grounds so special.
Fife, or Pfc. Fife, as he's know these days in the U.S. Marines, made a visit back home this week, surprising his younger brother Ryan Fife, who is a senior at Fair Lawn High this year.
The scene played out in the high school auditorium, where several classes had gathered to tour the annual club fair. That's when Dena DeSantis, FLHS counselor and military liaison to the high school, called Ryan on stage.

The school district said he was slightly confused as to why he was being singled out, but it all became clear just a few moments later when his older brother wrapped him in a bear hug from behind.
"I’m pretty excited to be here to surprise my brother and I hope he got nervous," said the elder Fife.

According to the district, this is Fife's first leave since January of this year, and the high school was his first stop on a tour of surprises which included a visit to his sister and parents later in the day.
