RARITAN, NJ — A Plainfield man was killed in a head-on crash in Hunterdon County on Tuesday night.
At around 5:30 p.m., the Raritan Township Police Department went to the area of 108 Sergeantsville Road for a report of an accident, where they found a Honda Civic and a Ford Bronco.
The driver of the Bronco, a 33-year-old man from Lambertville, was alert and outside of his vehicle. He did not appear to have any physical injuries, said Raritan Township Police Lt. Scott D. Nelson.
The driver of the Civic, a 79-year-old man from Plainfield, was still inside his vehicle, lying across the front seats. He was unconscious and unresponsive, said Nelson.
Police said the Plainfield man appeared to have severe injuries. Officers removed him from the car and began life-saving measures.
An eyewitness reported that the Honda Civic was driving north on Sergeantsville Road when it "abruptly and suddenly drifted into oncoming traffic" and crashed, head-on, into the Ford Bronco.
The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to Hunterdon Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Raritan Township Police Department, along with the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
