EAST AMWELL, NJ — A worker, who fell 14 feet into a hole, was airlifted to a hospital on Monday.
At around 9:20 a.m., New Jersey State Police Troopers and Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad went to Back Brook Road in East Amwell in Hunterdon County for a report of a fall victim and confined space rescue.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a worker fell down a hole, said NJSP Caitlin Brennan to Patch.
The worker "experienced a fall exceeding 14 feet in height," according to East Amwell Township.
Rescue Squad members went into the excavation after monitoring the air quality in the hole.
The EMTs provided patient care, immobilized the patient on a Miller board and then packaged them into a basket stretcher, said the rescue squad.
"Meanwhile, rescue crews rigged up a dual rope system using Tower Ladder 21 as a high point change of direction so that the patient could be lifted up out of the hole, over the sheet pile shoring, and back to grade," said the rescue squad.
The worker was lifted from the excavation hole in a horizontal position due to his injuries.
"Tag lines were used to maneuver the stretcher around several obstacles in the excavation," said the rescue squad.
The worker was then airlifted by NJSP with moderate injuries to the trauma center at Capital Health in Trenton.
"We appreciate the commitment of all first responders who diligently work to safeguard our community daily and request that everyone consider the patient and their family in their thoughts," according to East Amwell Township.
