FLEMINGTON, NJ — When a Revolutionary War musical comes to the Hunterdon County Courthouse this weekend, it will bring the story of a Flemington patriot back to the place where he won his pension.
"The Crossing" will be previewed at the Historic Hunterdon County Courthouse, 71 Main Street, on Friday and Saturday.
The production tells the story of Jacob Francis, whom producers describe as a Black patriot from Flemington. According to the producers, Francis won his Revolutionary War pension at the same courthouse where the musical will be previewed this weekend.
His story is one of several about people who made sacrifices during the war. The producers say the musical also features the words of Thomas Paine and follows General Washington and the Continental Army.
The concert preview features music by John Allen Watts and a book and lyrics by Jason Huza.
Friday's performance is listed for 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. Saturday's performances are listed for 3 and 7:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before each show.
General admission tickets cost $30 and are available through the producer's event page. The courthouse has wheelchair access through a rear entrance and elevator, according to the producers.
