The driver, Demarcus D. Shelborne, 32, of Milford, Delaware, was stopped after he drove 80 mph, tailgated a motorcycle and used with cell phone without a hands free device, Bendul said.

During the stop, the officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and became suspicious; Joseph's K-9 partner Hudson searched the Nissan and altered him to the presence of narcotics in the trunk, the chief said.

Joseph found 2 lbs. of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms in a tan bag in the Nissan's trunk, Bendul said.

It was Joseph and Hudson's first narcotics arrest since graduating from the Bergen County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Detection Course.

Shelborne was charged with distribution of marijuana, distribution of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Bendul said. He was issued motor vehicle summonses for speeding, using a cell phone and other infractions.
