Children's International Showcase

The Fort Lee Public Library proudly hosts
the “First Annual Children’s International Showcase” on Sunday, October 20th
from 2-4pm.  Children’s Days are
celebrated all around the world on different days throughout the year. The
United States honors youth every year on the second Sunday in June, Korea on
May 5th, Russia on June 1st and in Japan there is a
tradition that began from the eighth century to celebrate children’s day twice
a year: March 3rd for girls and May 5th for boys. Japan
also has instituted a “Children’s Day” on May 5th which is
considered a National Holiday since 1948.

The United Nation’s Universal Children’s
Day, which was established on December 14, 1954 by the General Assembly is
celebrated on November 20th each year and is “to
be observed as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between
children. It recommended that the Day was to be observed also as a day of
activity devoted to promoting the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the
welfare of the children of the world.” The date, November 20th marks
the day on which the Assembly adopted the “Declaration of the Rights of the
Child.”

In raising awareness of Children’s Days
worldwide, The Fort Lee Public Library is celebrating on Sunday, October 20th
in order to promote international togetherness and awareness among children
worldwide.
