Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Collecting Donations, Waiving Commissions For Victims Of Avalon At Edgewater Fire

Agents are waiving rental commission fees and donating time to help Avalon fire victims find new homes.

FORT LEE, N.J. – (January 23, 2015) – The sales associates affiliated with the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Fort Lee on 2151 Lemoine Avenue are waiving their rental commission fees and donating their time to help victims of the massive fire at the Avalon at Edgewater apartment complex find new homes. The office is also collecting gift cards, pet supplies and household items needed by Avalon at Edgewater residents.

“This is our community, and we want to do everything in our power to give back and help our neighbors in their time of great need,” said Juan Rivera, branch vice president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Fort Lee. According to Rivera, sales associates at his office have worked with many clients in the past who found homes at Avalon. “It is devastating to lose your home, so we appreciate any assistance the community can provide in bringing the families and individuals affected some peace of mind,” said Rivera.

According to collection coordinator and sales associate Melissa Gonzalez, gift cards are needed for Edgewater-area stores such as Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and Pier One; restaurants such as Outback Steakhouse, P.F. Chang’s, Houlihan’s and Panera Bread; and grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Pathmark, A and P and Mitsuwa. There is also a need for toiletries, new toys, new socks and small housewares. The Edgewater Community Center will distribute these items to displaced Avalon at Edgewater residents.

Gonzalez said Bergen County Humane Enforcement is assisting with displaced pets from Avalon, many of whom are being fostered in temporary shelters. They are in need of the following: anti-anxiety toys such as Kong or Nyla balls for dogs, and no-stress cat toys; dry and wet dog and cat food; cat litter; and cleanings supplies for cages like paper towels and cleaners.
