New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera Names Barbara Konig Costume Designer and Wardrobe Director

Barbara Konig has been named the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's costume designer and wardrobe director.

Lucine Amara, Artistic Director of the Fort Lee based New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera (Verismo Opera), announced Barbara Konig of Dumont, New Jersey has been appointed to the positions of Costume Designer and Wardrobe Director. In 2008, Ms. Konig began working with the grand opera company fitting costumes and joined as a seamstress.

Since 2009, she has held the position Assistant to the Costumer. Her costume creations have appeared in several of the grand opera company’s productions, including Il Trovatore, Carmen, Rigoletto, La Boheme, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, and others. She also serves on the organization’s Advisory Board. In recognition of her contributions to the house opera of the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), she received Verismo Opera’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 2009 and 2012.

A lifelong resident of New Jersey, she is a graduate of Westwood High School.

Carmen

Ms. Konig’s work will be seen in Verismo Opera’s new production Carmen on April 26 at bergenPAC, located at 30 North Van Brunt Street, in Englewood, New Jersey. The complete cast will appear in period costumes designed by Ms. Konig, Costumer’s Assistant Elaine McKhann and Costume Consultant Catherine Mirabella.

Verismo Opera will present Carmen in four acts with the libretto written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. bergenPAC is handicapped accessible. Hearing assist systems are available upon request to the house manager in the lobby.

Tickets may be purchased online, at the bergenPAC box office, and by calling (201) 227-1030 or toll-free at 1-888-PACSHOW. Senior citizens receive a 10% discount. The company is offering a reduced rate of $10 on all tickets for children, ages 12 and under. The special senior citizen and children’s discount ticket rates are available at the box office only and must be requested before the purchase. For special rates for group sales only, call (201) 224-2809. Discount tickets are not available for purchase online.
