6 Tips for Throwing a Safe and Fun 4th of July Bash

With our country’s independence day coming up on July 4th, you’re likely planning a fun party with friends and family. If you’re a pool owner, you know you have a duty to ensure a fun yet safe time while everyone is at your home. There’s nothing better than grilling burgers and having some cold drinks while everyone lounges around your patio and splashes in the pool.
Here are some tips to ensure your party is a success.
Make sure you have a full tank of gas for the grill. Waiting till you have a backyard full of hungry people is not the best time to run out of gas. A few days beforehand, check the level in your current tank and pick up another tank to have on hand. Clean the grill inside and out, and go food shopping for your party. Burgers and dogs are universal favorites, but you may want to consider trying something new like smoked brisket or ribs to really impress your guests.

Plan out the music. A great party is made even better when the tunes are going. Choose popular music from Top 40, but don’t forget seasonal favorites like the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett. Add in a few patriotic songs since it’s the 4th of July.
Balance the pool. No one wants to hop in a pool when the water is cloudy or green. That’s why you should call your pool professional in advance to make sure the water is properly balanced for the right pH and sanitizer levels. This will help prevent eye and skin irritation. Care for the land around the pool, mending fences, mowing the lawn, planting pretty flowers and patching the patio.

Protect guests from the sun and bugs. Display a few bottles of sunscreen and bug spray for guests to ensure they are adequately protected. Make sure there are enough shaded areas under umbrellas or trees to keep older adults and small kids out of direct sunlight.
Be clear about pool safety. No one wants to think about it, but small children can easily drown in pools in the summer while their parents are busy socializing off to the side – especially were alcohol is involved. Make pool safety a #1 priority and make sure all your guests know your pool rules. For big parties, it’s a good idea to hire a lifeguard or designate rotating shifts for parents to watch the kids. Make sure your guests know the depth of the pool and be sure to go over swimming and diving rules.
Play pool games. While just having a pool should provide enough fun for kids, sometimes it’s even better to have some games on hand during the slow times. Relay races…Marco Polo…chicken fights…float races…water basketball…these are just a few classic games that are instant hits for guests.
Now that you’ve got safety, fun and food covered, you can throw a killer backyard bash on the 4th of July. Contact Central Jersey Pools before your party to help with the pool preparations.
