MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden is warning residents to watch out for a new phone scam.
This warning comes following reports of residents who received calls from people stating that they're representatives of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.
In these calls, Golden said callers claim that the person who picked up failed to report for jury duty and must pay a fine.
The Sheriff's Office is advising residents that no member of their office will call to inform people about failure to appear for jury duty, nor will they ask for money or claim there's an arrest warrant.
"In regard to any SCAM, always use your best judgment," Golden said. "If it doesn’t seem right, it’s probably not."
Complaints to the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office can be directed to 732-431-6400.
