FREEHOLD, NJ — New Jersey tennis star Amanda Anisimova was knocked out of the 2026 U.S. Open on Saturday following a loss in the third round.

Anisimova's stunning loss comes after a victory on her birthday against fellow U.S. competitor Ashlyn Krueger, and after she made it to the U.S. Open finals in 2025.

Despite her previous victories, Anisimova struggled in her match against Potapova on Saturday, The Athletic reported, committing 18 errors on her forehands and winning just half of the points on her first serve.

In an online post, Anisimova acknowledged her third-round loss, thanking those who have supported her along the way.

"Setbacks fuel the fire," she said. "Thank you everyone for the support, it gives me the strength and courage to keep fighting."

Born in Freehold Township on Aug. 31, 2001, Anisimova began playing tennis after going to her sister's practices every day and has since gone on to compete in tournaments around the world.

Currently, she is ranked No. 10 in the singles rankings by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
