Monmouth County Events To Mark 25th Anniversary Of 9/11 Terror Attacks (patch.com) — Freehold residents have several ways to observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11, with separate morning ceremonies planned at Freehold Township's 9/11 Monument and Freehold Borough Hall. These local events are part of a broader Monmouth County Day of Remembrance and coincide with national observances at Ground Zero, the Pentagon and the Flight 93 National Memorial.
2. Biotechnology High School Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists (patch.com) — Freehold readers can celebrate several Biotechnology High School students who have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top-scoring seniors in the country. These local scholars now move on in the competition for prestigious awards to be announced in 2027.
3. Spring freeze gutted N.J.'s apple crop. Here's where you can still pick your own apples this fall. (nj.com subscription) — Freehold's Battleview Orchards, the state's oldest pick-your-own orchard, lost its entire apple crop to April's freeze and won't offer apple picking this fall, though its market and cider doughnuts remain open. Across New Jersey, many orchards face similar losses, so residents are urged to check ahead for limited picking dates and support local farms where possible.
4. Keansburg breaks through with offensive onslaught against Freehold Boro (nj.com subscription) — Freehold Borough's football team fell 30–12 at home as Keansburg snapped a two-game losing streak with a big offensive night in Freehold. Despite touchdowns from quarterback Adrian Krkuti, the Colonials dropped to 0–3, while Keansburg's passing attack and special teams set the tone from the opening kickoff.
