UPPER FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A child was killed and a woman was injured Saturday when they were hit by an SUV at a farm brewery in Upper Freehold, New Jersey State Police said.
The crash was reported at 11:07 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Charles Marchan said.
Ellen Gabriel, 66, of Roselle Park, and the child were walking through a parking lot at Emleys Hill Road when they were hit by a Chrysler SUV that was backing out of a parking space, Marchan said.
The child, whose age and gender were not released, suffered fatal injuries, he said.
Gabriel suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, he said. There were no other injuries reported on scene.
The driver of the SUV was not identified.
State police did not identify the business, but Screamin' Hill Brewery on Emleys Hill Road posted on its Facebook page that it was closed Saturday due to an emergency in the parking lot.
The farm and brewery remained closed on Sunday, according to its Facebook page.
The brewery and Bullock Farms have been owned by the same family for seven generations, the Bullock Farms website says.
The crash remains under investigation.
