Freehold YMCA offers lifeguard certification class, fee reimbursement available with employment

Looking for a great summer job or career as a lifeguard? The Freehold YMCA's next American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class will start with a skills pre-test on Sunday, May 20 at 12:00pm, followed by online and in-person lessons/tests June 3, 9, and 10.
The course is blended-learning format to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The blended-learning option combines online learning with in-person skill sessions conducted by a Red Cross-certified instructor. Attendance at ALL class dates is mandatory .
Mandatory Prerequisites:

- Must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course
- Successful completion of skills pre-test:
- 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle and/or breaststroke)
- Tread water with no hands for 2 minutes
- Swim approx. 20 yards, surface dive to depth of 7-12 feet, retrieve 10lb object, kick on back carrying the object approx. 20 yards, exit the pool without the ladder in under 1 minute and 40 seconds
Certifications Earned [valid for 2 years]:
- Lifeguarding
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Standard First Aid
Before FIRST DAY of in-person class, students need to complete 7-hour online lesson/test.

In-person class dates/times:
Sunday, June 3, 10:00am-5:00pm
Saturday, June 9, 10:30am-5:00pm [CPR/First Aid]
Sunday, June 10, 10:00am-5:00pm
Registration begins April 16th and the class fee is $300 for Y members and $350 for non members. No refunds will be issued once class starts or for failure due to performance or attendance. Students who complete the course successfully and are subssequently hired as Freehold Y lifeguards will be eligible for class fee reimbursement.
