Charges Upgraded To Murder For Millstone Man: Prosecutor

FREEHOLD, NJ — A Millstone Township man has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting an acquaintance last month, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.
David A. Bulk, 71, is charged with first-degree murder and a related second-degree weapons offense in connection with the death of 49-year-old Gerard Carpinello of Portland, Pa., said Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey in a news release.
Carpinello had been injured in the shooting July 10 and died of his injuries this past Friday, July 29, authorities said.

Shortly after 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 10, members of the New Jersey State Police responded to a report of a shooting at a private residence on Woodville Road near the intersection of Appaloosa Drive in Millstone, the news release said.
Troopers found Carpinello at the scene, with multiple gunshot injuries. He was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He died of his injuries this past Friday, July 29.

Bulk was also at the scene on the night of the shooting and was immediately taken into custody and then charged with attempted murder, the news release said. He was released on conditions following a Superior Court hearing at which the state had argued to keep him detained.
Bulk was arrested without incident at his home Monday morning on the upgraded charge of murder by members of the prosecutor's office Major Crimes Bureau, the State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service, authorities said. A detention hearing is pending.
The case has been assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Luciano. Bulk is being represented by Thomas V. Campo, Toms River, and Tara Breslow-Testa, Freehold.
