Previously he worked in the Harvard healthcare system and has served on numerous regional and national committees for the American College of OB/GYN & the American Medical Association. Progestin-Only Birth Control
Some of the most commonly used methods of birth control are hormonal, of which there are 2 different types: combined (containing estrogen and progesterone) and progestin-only. Both can be equally effective and safe when used properly. Some women having medical conditions that prevent them from taking estrogen, side effects to combined birth control pills, are breastfeeding, or simply want to avoid the rare but potential risks associated with estrogen use. For these women the progestin-only methods are a great option.
