Draft of FRHSD Strategic Plan Unveiled

Superintendent Charles Sampson says plan will provide consistency for district.

The Freehold Regional High School District is embarking on ambitious plan to map out its future direction, Superintendent Charles B. Sampson said Monday.

Sampson and Curriculum and Instruction Administrative Supervisor Jeffrey P. Moore unveiled a draft framework for a new strategic plan and mission statement for the district during a press conference at the in Englishtown Monday morning.

“We have six very high-performing high schools. Over the years we’ve lacked a real coherent district vision for how we take a high-functioning system and make it better,” Sampson said. “We feel strongly that a strategic plan with specific annual benchmarks is a critical component of that. It’s an intentionally ambitious plan.”

The strategic plan, which was introduced to the public during a special Board of Education meeting Monday night, is still in early stages of development, Moore said. Objectives for the plan include developing individualized post-high school plans for students, encouraging students to participate in community and civic activities, and exceeding proficiency at all levels of standardized testing. Sampson said the plan’s emphasis on including all students in its stated objectives rather than a percentage is what makes it particularly ambitious.

How these objectives will be acted upon and integrated into the daily lives of staff, students and parents is something that will develop in the next few months as the strategic plan is finalized, according to Moore.

Sampson said having a map for the direction of the district will provide consistency for the district.

“The strength of a real coherent plan is it survives board turnover, it survives administrative turnover,” Sampson said.

The district has developed a new Web site, accessible at compass.frhsd.com, to provide information to community members. The district is also soliciting feedback through a survey available on the site.
