Dry cold front brings Arctic Chill back

A brief warm up today will be cut short by another Arctic Cold front

Warmer conditions are in place for today leading to temperatures only around 10 degrees below normal for afternoon highs rather than 20 degrees below normal as has been experienced the past two days. However, the warm up will be brief as another shot of Arctic cold air settles in for tomorrow.

Clouds will increase through the day as the cold front approaches the region. As the cold front moves through late tonight into tomorrow morning, a few flurries are possible however most locations will remain dry. Arctic high pressure will be in control by tomorrow afternoon with temperatures once again struggling in the 30’s. Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the upper 30’s to lower 40’s for highs. Low temperatures tomorrow will fall into the upper 10’s to lower 20’s over the interior and lower to mid 20’s along the coast. High temperatures tomorrow afternoon will rise into the mid 30’s throughout much of the northern Mid Atlantic and mid to upper 30’s along the immediate coast.

High pressure will exit to the east on Saturday and Sunday leading to scattered cloud cover throughout the weekend. Winds will back to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph through the period. Low temperatures on Saturday will range from the mid to upper 10’s over the interior and lower to mid 20’s along the coast. High temperatures on Saturday will rebound into the upper 30’s to lower 40’s over the interior and lower to mid 40’s along the coast. Temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower to mid 30’s for lows and lower to mid 50’s for highs.

A powerful area of low pressure will develop in the Mississippi River Valley and drive a warm front into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas late Sunday night on through Monday morning with periods of rain. A cold front will follow in the afternoon with periods of heavy rain and a few thunderstorms. Low temperatures will range from the upper 30’s to lower 40’s over the interior and mid to upper 40’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50’s over the interior and lower to mid 60’s along the coast.

Arctic high pressure will build into the region once again on Tuesday with clearing skies and windy conditions. Temperatures will be falling through the day with an early high in the mid to upper 50’s and evening lows in the mid to upper 30’s. Clear skies are expected on Wednesday with near normal seasonably cold temperatures. Low temperatures will range from the upper 20’s to lower 30’s over the interior and mid to upper 30’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 40’s over the interior and mid to upper 40’s along the coast.
