Election Day 2016: How Did Monmouth County Vote In The Presidential Race?

Donald Trump won the presidency, but Hillary Clinton won New Jersey. Which way did the county go?

FREEHOLD, NJ — As the dust settles this morning with Donald Trump elected as the new president, people are looking at where his support came from.

While New Jersey as a whole supported Clinton, in Monmouth County Trump found favor, receiving 151,184 of the 286,934 ballots cast, according to unofficial vote tallies on the Monmouth County clerk's office election results page.

Trump received more than 30,000 votes more than Clinton, who received 121,004, 42.56 percent of the ballots cast. Out of 446,831 eligible voters, 64.22 cast ballots on Tuesday.

Third-party candidates in Monmouth County received 12,128 votes, with Gary Johnson receiving 5,626 in his bid for the presidency.

Republicans at the congressional, county and local levels also enjoyed significant support, with Chris Smith winning re-election in the House of Representatives' 4th District by a wide margin among Monmouth County voters and county sheriff Shaun Golden and surrogate Rosemarie Peters winning by double-digit percentages. Only Democrat Frank Pallone in the 6th District, who beat Republican Brent Sonnek-Schmelz by more than 8,500 votes, bucked the overall trend.
