The inspiration for "Love Over Fear" came from the duo's concern and interest in human rights and from personal life experiences. The lyrics to the song became words to live by during a deeply dark time in the duo's life when one of its members, Amy Schindler, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
While trying to get a grip on her life-changing situation and trying to remain strong, she was faced with the question of whether she would choose to be taken over by the fear of the disease, or the love in her life.
"Our music is a tremendous vehicle for us to give creatively to something bigger than ourselves," said Schindler. "The simple act of writing a song from a personal experience and having it touch someone in a meaningful way is an amazing part of our musical journey."
"Love Over Fear" marks the band's official follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, "Here Be Dragons" featuring 11 tracks.
Virago is composed of Schindler on guitar and vocals, and her partner Maire Tashjian on percussion and vocals, creating a mix of original tunes that music critic Beth Boylan calls "fierce," and WRSU host Richard Skelly identifies as "compelling."
The album was engineered by Tony Corelli and produced by Sonia Rutstein at The Deep End Studio in Baltimore, MD.
The album will be available for purchase through CDBaby and iTunes.
