First Baptist Church sends handmade dresses to Guatamala

Sewing club makes 75 dresses for needy girls

First Baptist Church of Freehold is sending 75 handmade dresses to underprivileged girls in Guatemala this week.
The church's sewing club, Bits and Pieces, arranged for Corey Inzana, international student advisor at Monmouth University, to deliver the dresses to a local church when he brings a group of college students to this Central American country later this week.
Arlene Buscaglia, a member of the club, said her group sent 85 dresses to the Dominican Republic last summer.
"It's a nice way of doing something for someone else," Buscaglia said.
The Rev. Jonathan Elsensohn dedicated the new dresses at Sunday's worship service, noting that God's community exists beyond local borders and national boundaries.
"It's a good reminder that we can put effort into places where we may never set foot," the pastor said of this ministry.
Bits and Pieces meets every Tuesday night at the church. Sewing skills are not necessarily required as some women help out by measuring, cutting and pinning fabric. All church members are welcome to join the group.
