Freehold Area Schools Announce Weather Decision For March 14

FREEHOLD, NJ — Students who attend Freehold area schools will get to sleep in on Tuesday, after the elementary and high school districts announced the schools will be closed due to the impending blizzard.

The Freehold Borough, Freehold Township and Freehold Regional High School districts anounced the closures Monday afternoon in advance of the storm.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Monmouth County (and several other New Jersey counties) early in the day on Monday, and calling for heavy snow, winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 50 mph from the storm that is expected to affect much of the Northeast. The blizzard warning begins at 8 p.m. Monday and is expected to run through 6 p.m. Tuesday, and forecasters with the weather service are urging people to stay off the roads.

Freehold Township district officials said Wednesday, March 15, which was scheduled to be an early dismissal day, will now be a full day of school.

Gov. Chris Christie issued a state of emergency Monday afternoon, telling only essential state workers to report to work on Tuesday.

In addition, the following schools are closed:

• Advantage Career Institute, Eatontown
• Brookdale Community College: All locations, all classes and all activities are closed and canceled. The Brookdale/Rutgers Open House has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 6-8 p.m. at Brookdale's Freehold Campus.
• Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft; the Mothers Club Retreat scheduled for Tuesday also is canceled
• Georgian Court University, Lakewood
• Monmouth County Vocational Schools: All full-time career academies, shared-time career schools and evening adult school programs are canceled.
• Red Bank Catholic High School, Little Silver
• St. James Elementary School, Little Silver
• St. Jerome School, West Long Branch
• St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel
