Freehold Borough Building Destroyed In Weekend Blaze: FD

FREEHOLD, NJ - County authorities are currently investigating the source of a weekend fire in Freehold Borough that rendered the “complete loss” of a building Sunday evening.

The Freehold Fire Department began receiving multiple emergency calls at approximately 5:49 p.m. reporting a fire located in the rear of 116 West Main St. First responders later confirmed a detached garage/barn on the property to be fully engulfed in flames, according to a statement issued by the department.

“Due to the rapidly deteriorating structural integrity of the building as a result of heavy fire conditions, exterior operations were soon initiated in order to ensure the safety of firefighters and limit exposure to nearby buildings,” the department wrote.

“The fire was completely knocked down at approximately 6:39 p.m. No injuries were reported.”

Fire departments from Freehold, East Freehold, Marlboro and Adelphia, as well as the Monmouth County Fire Marshal and Freehold EMS, according to the Freehold Fire Department.

“A borough building suffered a complete loss in a fire this evening,” Freehold Fire Department Chief Robbie Bailey confirmed Sunday evening.

The Asbury Park Press also reported that parts of West Main Street were closed at the time of the fire.

According to the Twitter account CentralJerseyFire, a partial collapse of a barn was reported at 6:16 p.m.:

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
