Freehold Borough YMCA & Police Dept. to Host Occupy the Block

Fun activities planned for borough summer campers

In an effort to foster positive relations between the police and community children, the Freehold Borough YMCA Community Center and the Police Department have partnered for a third year to celebrate the annual Occupy the Block Party for borough summer campers at Liberty Street Park on July 20th (rain date August 3rd). “Community outreach is a top priority for Freehold and compassion is one of Freehold’s greatest strengths,” says Mel O’Neal, Executive Branch Director of Freehold Borough Y. “We are very appreciative of all of the support, time and effort invested in the annual Occupy the Block Party.”

The festivities begin at 10:30am and the three and a half-hour event is sponsored by The National Police Department Foundation, Executive Director, Joseph Occhipinti. Lunch will be provided courtesy of Jersey Mike’s of Freehold, and participants will receive an “Occupy the Block” t-shirt. Many fun-filled activities aimed at fostering community connectedness are planned, including:

  • demonstrations by Freehold Borough First Responders
  • police car and K-9
  • promoting the Police Department’s bicycle helmet initiative with iPlay America
  • ambulance tour
  • fire truck tour
  • Monmouth County Sherriff’s Office mobile command RV
  • child fingerprinting
  • kickball
  • basketball
  • cornhole
  • ultimate frisbee
