Freehold Man Linked To Pizza Shop Murder Gets 19 Years In Prison

FREEHOLD, NJ – A Freehold man was sentenced to nearly two decades in state prison on Monday, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities argue that Hector Calderon, 53, was involved in a fatal shooting in a Jackson Township pizza shop that occurred in April 2015.

Calderon was sentenced to 19 years in New Jersey State Prison on July 27 after pleading guilty in February to two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of a local luxury car salesman. Prosecutors argue that Calderon was hired by a local pizza empire heir, Daniel Romeo Disantillo of Manalapan, to kill the salesman to cover up a debt.

The salesman, Peyman Sanandaji, reportedly granted DiSantillo $140,000 to invest in restaurants and local real estate. However, DiSantillo reportedly transferred the funds to his wife’s bank account.

Calderon was arrested in 2015 along with Daniel Romeo Disantillo in connection with the April 2015 murder. Disantillo was convicted of murder in 2017 and is currently serving a 30-year sentence in state prison. At Disantillo’s trial, authorities argued that Disantillo hired Calderon as an accomplice to kill Sanandaji.

Calderon was tried twice for murder and related weapons offenses, but mistrials were declared in both trials. At both trials, juries were unable to come to unanimous verdicts. An agreement was met by the state and defense to which Calderon would plead guilty to weapons offenses. Although the Freehold man was sentenced to a total of 19 years in state prison, Calderon must serve for at least nine years before he is eligible for parole.
