Freehold Raceway Mall Borders to Close

Freehold store is one of 200 on the chopping block.

Bookseller Borders filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Wednesday morning. The company announced it would close 200 of it stores, including the Freehold Raceway Mall location.

“Borders Group does not have the capital resources it needs to be a viable competitor and which are essential for it to move forward with its business strategy to reposition itself successfully for the long term,” Borders Group President Mike Edwards said in a press release.

The company will continue to honor gift cards and the Borders Rewards program during bankruptcy proceedings.
