Freehold Township Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle On Route 9

Hyman Imber, 85, was struck while walking in the left lane of Route 9 northbound Tuesday afternoon. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

FREEHOLD, NJ - An elderly man was fatally hit by a vehicle on Route 9 in Freehold Township Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Hyman Imber, 85, a Freehold Township resident, was struck by a 2020 Kia Forte while walking in the left lane of Route 9 northbound at approximately 4:50 p.m., Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, told Patch in an email. The department is investigating the incident in conjunction with local police.

The collision occurred just south of East Freehold Road, Webster said.

The Freehold Township man was taken to CentraState Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating in the investigation and no criminal conduct is suspected, Webster said.
