Gallery of Dance Wows Kids with Summer Intensive Program

At Gallery of Dance, we aim high for our students’ dance education. We take our dance programs seriously, and our recently completed – and successful – Summer Intensive is a perfect example of this.

We wanted our Summer Intensive to be just that – intense – and it started with the teachers. We brought in teachers from the professional dance world, each with extensive training, performance, and teaching careers. These dancers were and are professional performers, sought-after instructors, and choreographers, currently or previously seen in productions by companies such as Momix Dance Co and The Redef Movement, and currently teaching at Princeton Ballet, Princeton University, and Rider University.

How did this make a difference for our students? Because the more experience a teacher has, the more capable they are of sharing a deeper level of their craft. Coming from the professional dance world, these instructors exposed the students to a sophisticated view of dance education and provided them with new vocabulary, putting to words things that the kids had been doing, while also teaching brand new skills.

All in all, the students were able to gain a greater understanding of dance – both technically and artistically – and look at their teachers as inspirational examples of real people who had made it in the professional dance world.

It was clear from everyone’s responses that the program was a success. The teachers were excited to share their knowledge with the girls and witness their progress. The kids loved and appreciated gaining a different perspective and learning new techniques. And every parent we spoke with shared a sense of real satisfaction in their choice to involve their child in the intensive week.
