How Can You Extend Your Pool Season Year-Round – Affordably?
While everyone loves summer, it seems the season goes by way too fast and all the hard work you put in to open and enjoy the pool quickly comes to a close in early September. If you wish you could use your pool for longer than the summer’s short three-month time span, don’t worry – that wish is definitely achievable. And if your budget is tight, you can do it affordably. Here are some ways to extend the season so you can enjoy your pool year-round:
- Sufficient pool heating begins and ends with a quality pool heater, preferably an energy efficient one so you’re not spending a fortune on energy bills. The rest of the tips can be used in parallel to your pool heater.
- A solar blanket can be a great way to heat up your pool, which harnesses the sun’s UV rays in an effort to naturally heat up the water. Simply keep the solar blanket on the pool throughout the year, rolling it up when you want to go for a dip. You just have to invest in the cost of the blanket, plus the time commitment it takes to putting it on and off.
- A similar idea is to use a liquid solar cover, which has essentially the same effect as solar blankets although liquid. This “blanket” hugs the water’s surface to lock in heat and prevent evaporation. Don’t worry, when you’re finished swimming, the liquid solar cover will re-form once the choppy water calms down.
- Looking for a middle of the road option that combines the above two? Solar rings are a good option. Just throw some into the pool and they will attract the sun’s rays to keep the heat inside the pool. While not quite as effective as other options, it’s still something you can try.
- Use a black garden hose to your advantage by syphoning water out of the pool, through the hose, and back into the pool once again. The dark coloring of the hose natural warms up the water from the inside, delivering warm water in your pool on the cheap. The only cost to you is the hose itself.
- In conjunction with all of the above, use your pool heater as sparingly as possible. This will depend on how effective the above methods are for you.
Remember, it’s best to combine some of the above methods to prevent evaporation and help heat your pool so it can naturally stay heated for as much of the year as possible. Need assistance?
