I Can’t Decide: Above Ground or Inground Pool?
You’re certainly not the first person to ponder this question. It’s one of the more common ones we see here at Central Jersey Pools. The decision you ultimately make will depend on several factors, from available space in your backyard to budget to lifestyle. Consider these questions and you’ll be a pool owner in no time.
What’s Your Budget?
The answer to this question will greatly determine which option you go with. Only have about $10,000 or less to spend? Your budget will probably only allow for an above ground pool, which ranges from $3,000 to $10,000 to purchase and install. If you have upwards of $20,000, an inground pool could be a reality. Keep in mind a basic inground pool will cost you at least $20,000 but could be up to triple that and beyond depending on the size and type of pool you choose. Also contributing to the cost is all the decking and fencing needed to complement the project.
How Long do You Plan on Living in That Location?
If you plan on staying there at least five to seven years, you may want to choose an inground pool. If, however, you anticipate relocating in the next year or so, it makes sense to go with an above ground pool. They are portable and you can take the pool with you to the new digs, or sell it to someone. An inground pool is a permanent fixture with your property and must be viewed as such.

What do You See for Your Backyard?
When you envision what you want your backyard to look like, what image comes to mind? Do you picture an inground pool with landscaping, decking, fencing, a patio, etc. or a simple above ground pool with a modest deck attached? How much space does your backyard have? If you are limited in space, an above ground pool is probably more feasible. If you would like to choose from several configurations and options, an inground pool gives you more customized choices. Conversely, an above ground pool only offers a few size options, like round and oval.
What Kind of Family do You Have?
Large families with small children who spend a lot of time outside will need an inground pool. You know you’ll get optimal use out of it and can properly fence it in for safety. Plus, inground pools are ideal if you plan to host lots of parties and barbecues throughout the summer.

On the other hand, if you have an older, quiet family or it’s just you and your spouse living in the home, an above ground pool is more practical.
