The Latino Coalition, in collaboration with Casa Freehold and the Latino Action Network, is sponsoring an immigration forum on Monday July 15, 2013 at 7 pm at 191 Throckmorton Street, Freehold.
Congressman Frank Pallone, 6th District, will provide residents with an update on the pending immigration legislation in the House of Representatives. The US Senate passed a comprehensive immigration bill [S. 744] last month.
“This is the most important piece of legislation being considered by Congress in this term,” said Frank Argote-Freyre, Director of the Latino Coalition. “We hope area residents will take the time to learn about the status of legislation to overhaul the nation’s broken immigration system. It would be a crime if the House of Representatives were to squander this historic opportunity to make things better.”
Rita Dentino, President of Casa Freehold, said: “Our hope and our fight is for an immigration reform bill truly that is inclusive of all 11.2 million undocumented immigrants. We oppose the emphasis on more militarization of the border. We stand for a fair work requirement which includes day laborers and domestic workers.”
The Congressman’s remarks will be translated into Spanish.
The Latino Action Network, a statewide umbrella organization, is also co-sponsoring the forum. Flyers in English and Spanish announcing the event are attached to this press release.
