LOCAL FLOOR COVERINGS INTERNATIONAL FACILITATES SHAW INDUSTRIES FLOORING DONATION TO NEW BRUNSWICK RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick gets facelift after flood thanks to Floor Coverings International in Freehold.

(FREEHOLD, N.J.)---When the Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick located at 145 Somerset St. experienced flood damage to the carpeting in its basement, Floor Coverings International of Monmouth County, which is located in Freehold, owner Mike Killeen, 54, was inspired to help. Facilitating Shaw Industries’ plans to donate up to $5,000 of vinyl flooring to the home that provides housing for families of ill children receiving medical care at nearby facilities, Killeen will use his flooring expertise to give what started as a bad story a happy ending.

Providing flooring solutions to customers’ doorstep in the Monmouth County area since 2009, Killeen’s mobile flooring business is no stranger to the services he’ll provide for the Ronald McDonald House, or even the impetus for the need for them, flood damage. What’s unique about the situation is that Killeen and Shaw Industries will be servicing the Ronald McDonald House charging nothing for the flooring.

“Ronald McDonald House provides a tremendous service to the community, so when I heard of the damage caused by the water damage to their carpeting I knew I could help,” said Killeen. “With Shaw Industries donating the vinyl flooring that will replace the ruined carpet, the House can continue to serve families in need as it has for the last decade. Welton Davison and everyone else at Shaw is providing a tremendous service and I’m honored to work with them for this noble goal.”

Lynne Siedentop, operations director at Ronald McDonald House of Central and Northern New Jersey, said the donation solves a problem the house has long struggled with.

“Our New Brunswick House has been open for 10 years now and the basement playroom has been flooded three times, so it was very important for us to get a flooring solution that would withstand moisture,” said Siedentop. “We reached out to several flooring companies but all were prohibitively expensive. I spoke with Mike and was absolutely ecstatic when he came back with the concept of donating the flooring products.”

A man who has made providing tailored flooring services his life’s passion, Killeen notes a lesson to be learned from the damage incurred from the flood. Properly installed vinyl flooring, he said, can be resistant to moisture, including that which often accumulates in a basement.

In recognition of the work Killeen’s Floor Coverings International is to help perform, Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick will install a plaque in the house’s playroom in honor of Floor Coverings International of Monmouth County and Shaw Industries.
