Man Indicted In Fatal Shooting On Route 33: Prosecutor

Kader Mustafa, 34, faces a minimum of 30 years in prison if convicted on the charge of murder in the killing of Sciascia Calhoun.

FREEHOLD, NJ — The man accused in the fatal shooting a woman as she drove along Route 33 back May has been indicted in connection with her death, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Monday.

Kader Mustafa, 34, of Hightstown, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree endangering another person, Gramiccioni said.

The charges stem from the fatal shooting of Sciasia Calhoun, 24, of Freehold, who was killed as she drove along Route 33 west at the exit ramp for Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township on May 3, he said.

Freehold Township police responded to a 911 call at 11:44 p.m. reporting a woman who was shot inside her vehicle while driving along Route 33, Gramiccioni's office said.

Authorities allege Mustafa, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, fired at Calhoun’s 1997 Mazda Protege as they drove. Calhoun was accompanied by her boyfriend and their 1-year old child, neither of whom suffered physical injuries, authorities said.

Following a multi-agency investigation, Mustafa was arrested in Manalapan in the area of Oakland Mills Road at approximately 8:10 a.m. while inside his vehicle, authorities said.

At the time of the Calhoun killing, authorities said they were looking into possible connections with shootings that had occurred in Neptune and Holmdel where someone fired at random vehicles. Those incidents were not addressed in the information released about Monday's indictment. (READ MORE: Man Charged In Fatal Route 33 Shooting May Be Tied To 2 Others)
