Muler Louis of Neptune died Saturday night as a result of the Route 33 accident, authorities said.

A Neptune man died Saturday night when he was hit by a car on Route 33 after he stopped his truck to check on a deer he had hit, authorities said Sunday night.

Muler Louis, 53, was westbound on Route 33 near Kozloski Road when the 2014 Toyota Tundra he was driving hit a deer shortly after 7:30 p.m., said Charles Webster, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Louis, whose wife and young son were with him, brought his truck to a controlled stop and got out to check on the deer, Webster said.
