Mental Health & Recovery Awareness Day

Paint the Mall Purple is to raise awareness, encourage action, breakdown the stigma, and provide necessary resources for community members.

The statistics are frightening. The numbers are staggering. Depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD, and other mental health issues are rampant among our youth. How can we help someone suffering? What resources are available? How can you or a loved one live a fulfilled life with a mental illness and/or a substance abuse disorder? How can someone find recovery? There is HOPE! This is the purpose behind Paint The Mall Purple on May 11th, 2018 from 3-9pm at Freehold Raceway Mall. This event is family-friendly, free and open to the public.

According to NJSHAD’s Monmouth County Public Health Report, Suicide is the third leading cause of death among New Jersey residents aged 10-29 years, second among those aged 30-34, fourth among those aged 35-49, and 11th among all ages. Suicide has been increasing in New Jersey in recent years, going from about 500 deaths in 2005 to 789 in 2015.

Time Magazine’s March 2018 cover was ‘The Opioid Diaries’ which pictured heartbreaking photography and eye opening quotes from law enforcement, paramedics, mothers, fathers, siblings, and addicts hoping to someday live in peace and recovery. On average, 64,000 people a year are dying from drug overdoses; which has caused the Nation’s life expectancy to fall two years in a row. In the article, Bruce Lango said, “If there was a terrorist that showed up in Montgomery County today and shot 50 people, or 25, or 10 for that matter, this community would be in an uproar. There would be an army here trying to stop it. That’s exactly where we are at with opioids, but who is showing up?”

CFC Loud and Clear Foundation 501c3 (CFC), in partnership with the Freehold Raceway Mall is proudly “Painting the Mall Purple” for Mental Health & Recovery Awareness on Friday, May 11th from 3-9pm. Organizers have planned an incredible day of outreach, awareness, and action. This family friendly event will feature guest speakers, community resources, musicians, meditation, yoga, drum circles, and so much more.

Since 2012, CFC has developed and strengthened a relapse prevention program that has helped thousands of families in the State of New Jersey find and maintain recovery. An important part of the program is helping members create their personal recovery tool box to build a productive positive life. Members are introduced to a new way of life, creating new passion, understanding the power of giving back to the community from which they had been absent during active addiction and moving forward.
