More Than 600 New Homes May Come To Freehold Township

FREEHOLD, NJ — On more than 77 acres of farmland across from the entrance to Freehold Raceway Mall, a developer plans to build 660 townhouses, apartments and single-family homes, as well as retail space and a gas station, according to planning board documents.

The Freehold Township planning board was scheduled to hear the proposal from M&M at Main St Freehold LLC, during a planning board meeting on Thursday night.

The proposed development will be located on 77.34 acres of farmland known as the Bellemead parcel, which is owned by MACW Freehold LLC and is located at the intersection of Routes 33, 9 and 537.

T. Andrew Thomas, president of Thomas Planning Associates LLC in Brielle, wrote a letter to the planning board outlining the housing unit breakdown.

  • 90 single-family homes on the east side of the Trotters Way Extension.
  • 256 rental townhouse units, including 38 luxury units, on the west side of the Trotters Way Extension.
  • 214 rental apartments and 100 affordable housing units on the west side of the Trotters Way Extension south of County Route 537.
  • Community commercial space, which includes retail space and a commercial convenience store and a gas station.

M&M anticipates that the development will be completed in four phases over a 20-year period, according to planning board documents.
