Morning showers gives way to cool week

After a cold front clears the coast this morning, a cool and tranquil weather pattern will take control for the week.

Strong to severe thunderstorms early this morning certainly rattled the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas with frequent lightning, wind gusts over 40 mph, hail, very heavy downpours, and some very loud thunder. The cold front will clear the northern Mid Atlantic this morning and what will follow is a cool, comfortable, and dry air mass for the rest of the week.

The cold front will drive through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning with lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and wind gusts over 30 mph. Skies will clear this afternoon as the cold front exits and winds veer to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

High pressure will build into the region tonight into tomorrow with clear skies to scattered cloud cover. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will fall into the mid 50’s over the interior and upper 50’s to lower 60’s along the coast for lows tonight. Temperatures will rebound into the mid to upper 70’s along the coast and upper 70’s to lower 80’s throughout the rest of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas for highs.

High pressure will remain in control for Wednesday on through Friday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover. An isolated shower is possible but unlikely. Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 50’s over the interior and upper 50’s to lower 60’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 70’s to lower 80’s along the coast and lower to mid 80’s throughout the rest of the region.

A series of low pressure systems will produce scattered showers Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60’s for lows and lower to mid 80’s for highs.
