Pedestrian Injured In Car Accident In Freehold Township: Police

A woman struck by a car as she walked on Route 9 early Thursday morning is admitted to an area hospital; no summons issued to driver.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP —A woman who was struck by a car on Route 9 early Thursday morning has been taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, police say.

In updated information on an accident that happened around 5 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Scott Hall said the woman was a pedestrian and resident of town. The driver of the car was a male, and also a resident. No summons was issued.

He said there are no identifications at this time, but the department will update the matter as the investigation continues.

The accident prompted commuting delays in the area Thursday morning, authorities said earlier Thursday. The accident took place on Route 9 northbound at Route 79/Schank Road, according to an early report from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
