PIZZA FOR A PARK

Urban Parks are critical components of an improved quality of life for residents in more densely populated areas. Not only can parks provide recreational opportunities to urban residents but also help build communities and revitalize areas.

Urban green spaces bring together people from all social, economic and racial sectors. Parks help strengthening relationships among people living within the community and can empower them to work together to address larger issues affecting their neighborhood.

Research on lower-income housing developments found that residents who live near parks are more likely to socialize and develop ties with others as opposed to remaining in the isolation of their apartments. (Coley, Kuo and Sullivan 1997; Kuo, Coley and Brunson 1998). Urban parks bring hope back to communities and residents whose lives are otherwise affected.

Monmouth Conservation Foundation is working with others to increase green spaces in the City of Asbury Park. The current project is the Springwood Avenue Park which will be the FIRST-EVER park on Asbury Park’s west side of. The goal is to ensure all families have access to a safe park and recreational opportunities.

To help fund the Springwood Avenue Park, Monmouth Conservation Foundation is throwing a family-style pizza and pasta party on Sunday, May 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the renowned and fun Porta Restaurant, 911 Kingsley Street, Asbury Park.

All proceeds will be dedicated to helping build the playground. With the assistance of First Constitution Bank, who is sponsoring the Porta event, we hope this occasion will be the first in many to support parks in urban areas.

To purchase tickets please contact Chris or Kim at the Conservation Foundation at (732) 671-7000 or email info@monmouthconservation.org.
