Shooting Rumors In Freehold False, Police Say

Social media rumors about a shooting led to the recirculation of an old news article, police said.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Freehold Borough police say rumors of a shooting in the borough that have spread across the town this week are false.

In a post on its Facebook page, Freehold Borough Detective Sgt. Chris Colaner said the department was alerted to the rumors that were spreading around on Monday and said there is no truth to them.

Fueling the rumors, he said, is the recirculation of a February 2012 article from News 12 about a shooting in the borough.
