Some Monmouth County Absentee Ballots Returned To Sender: Reports

A problem with the envelope resulted in the postal service equipment not reading the address properly, the reports said.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Monmouth County voters seeking to cast their ballots by mail have had their mail-in ballots returned to them due to a mail processing error, according to a report.

The Asbury Park Press reported the issue was the result of an envelope design flaw that caused the postal service equipment to misread the address.

It is not known how many mail-in ballots may have been affected by the problem, according the report.

NJ.com reported the Monmouth County Clerk's Office has opened a hotline for voters to check to see whether their completed ballots have reached the clerk's office. That number is 732-303-2900.

The reports said the return addresses on the first ballots mailed out were too close to the window where the recipient's address appears. That has since been corrected, the reports said.
