As Storm Exits, Cold Conditions Set In

As rain and snow exits, cold blast settles in for the weekend

As an area of low pressure exits after producing some rain and snow Friday night, a very cold air mass will take hold over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas leading to well below normal temperatures through this weekend. However, at least weather conditions will be dry through the weekend before a rain storm develops for Monday.

High temperatures tomorrow will range from the upper 30’s to lower 40’s over the interior and lower to mid 40’s along the coast. Low temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower to mid 20’s over the interior and upper 20’s to lower 30’s along the coast. High temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower to mid 40’s over the interior and mid to upper 40’s along the coast.

An area of low pressure will develop over the Mississippi River Valley and lift northeast towards the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas on Monday. Periods of rain are expected for most of the region with some rain and snow mix for elevations over 500 feet, especially over northeastern Pennsylvania. The rain will push into the region late on Sunday and linger on through Monday afternoon before clearing out in time for the evening. Temperatures on Monday will range from the lower to mid 30’s for lows and mid to upper 40’s for highs throughout the region.

Arctic high pressure will be in place for Tuesday on through Thursday with very cold weather conditions expected. Clear skies to scattered cloud cover will be in place with winds from the northwest at around 5 to 10 mph. Low temperatures will range from the upper 10’s to lower 20’s over the interior and mid to upper 20’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30’s over the interior and upper 30’s to lower 40’s along the coast.
